LOTO does not apply to activities where your exposure to hazardous energy is controlled by unplugging the equipment from an outlet and you have exclusive control of the plug. This mostly occurs when using portable hand tools or some cord and plug machines and equipment.
The Standard does not apply when continuity of service is essential in hot-tap operations on pressurized pipelines that distribute water, gas, steam, or petroleum.
Finally, LOTO does not apply when, during normal production, you perform minor tool changes or servicing activities that are routine, repetitive, and an integral part of production. When you are involved in this type of activity, you need to use alternative protection.
